Sadly Becky's Great Aunt Lois passed last week, which of course this was very upsetting for her.
Kyla could see that her mother was upset, and asked her what was the matter. Once Becky had explained Kyla tried to comfort her by telling her, "that's OK Mommy, you can see her again, you just need to get a shovel and dig really deep."
This made Becky laugh hard, after which she felt better.

Kyla's Reaction to the Inauguration
Last night I told Kyla that today would be an historic day because Barack Obama (whom she's heard me talk about repeatedly before) was going to become president. "No Daddy," she replied, "I want the girl to win." I considered trying to explain that Hillary was going to become Secretary of State and that that was a great honor, but figured it would be to hard to explain what diplomacy was.
Today Becky had Kyla join her to watch the inauguration on television. She sat there quietly for most of it and then out of the blue said, "poor John McCain" (a name that probably hasn't been spoken around her for weeks).
I guess President Obama has his work cut out for him if he's going to win over my daughter.

The Blog Shuffle
In an effort to reorganize my online life a little, I'm moving the Hovenkotter Family Blog to this site (blog.hovenkotter.com) and my personal blog to brett.hovenkotter.com. If you're one of the few (only?) people subscribing to either feed, please adjust your URLs accordingly.
I'm going to try to repost everything from the Family Blog here and move my personal posts the new blog, so you'll soon know if I'm successful.
